Paying off a problem tenant

George Gordon

19 December 2009

I have just posted another message titled "Shall I risk a Section 8" where I need to get a problem tenant out of the house as quickly as possible.

In relation to this, one landlord has suggested that I offer to "pay her off" to get her to leave quickly (ie. offer an inducement such as some money if she voluntarily leaves by a certain date).

Has anyone had any experience/knowledge of doing this - and how would it work in practice? I assume it is perfectly legal (?)
