Expiry of Section 21 notice (Public Helpdesk Query)

I have a tenant who was served a s21 at the commencement of his tenancy in March 2009. He has now become troublesome and I want to end his tenancy. His s21 has obviously expired so can I just ask him to leave or do I have to give a period of notice?
