Housing market 'quietens down' - August / September 2000
Half of estate agents contributing to the latest National Association of Estate Agents survey say that demand no longer outstrips supply in their area. And 56 per cent say the number of offers received on houses was down on the previous month.
'Along with other results from our survey showing that nationally the numbers of viewings and offers are falling, this is further evidence that activity in the housing market is slowing down', said NAEA chief executive Hugh Dunsmore-Hardy. 'While we do not expect to see house prices increase at the rate we have witnessed over the past year, we do not expect house prices generally to fall'.
June had been 'generally a quieter month on both instructions and sales', said NAEA north west branch chairman Peter Davies. 'This quiet trend is likely to continue over the next couple of months'.
