Dome Minister takes on housing - June / July 2001
Lord Falconer, of Millennium Dome fame, has been appointed Minister of State for Housing and Planning within a slimmed down Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions.
There he will be responsible for urban policy, regeneration, neighbourhood renewal and Lords' business. Sally Keeble, named Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the appointments following Labour's General Election victory, will look after housing, planning, urban policy, regeneration, neighbourhood renewal, the rent service and planning inspectorate.
Former Housing Minister Nick Raynsford has been appointed Minister for Local Government within the DTLR.
In clearing the decks for the General Election the Government shelved both the Homes and the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bills containing, amongst other measures, the requirement for sellers' packs. Even if reintroduced it is now unlikely sellers' packs will become mandatory before January 2004.
