Default tenant database launched - February / March 2002
Landlords are being offered a two year free trial of a tenant vetting service imported from Australia and New Zealand.
Claiming to already run 'the largest Internet service of its type in the southern hemisphere', the Tenancy Information Centre Association has launched its bad tenant database in the UK. Membership is free for the first two years although those who sign on must agree to register any defaults or breaches of tenancy agreement.
The service, which the company says is registered under the 1998 Data Protection Act, 'follows the eight principles of good information handling'. Registered users have access to the TICA central register of tenants who have defaulted under their tenancy agreement they are listed until outstanding rent has been paid or they become time lapsed.
Where users find that a prospective tenant is included on the database they are able to call up a case history including relevant dates and contact information.
