Rat landlord fined - June / July 2002

A Hounslow landlord has been found guilty of nine different breaches of the Housing Act and ordered to pay £2,250 after one of his properties was found to be infested with rats.

The three bedroom house, situated yards from the home of the landlord, was found to have a kitchen overrun with live rats as well as being littered with the carcasses of dead ones.

The court was told Jaspal Auluck had failed to rectify the problems highlighted at an inspection of his property three months earlier.

Other offences related to detection of rat droppings throughout the property, mould growing up interior walls and an overgrown and littered garden. Nine people including a young child occupied the property, all sharing one bathroom.
