Average house tops £145,00 - April / May 2003

Average house prices in England and Wales topped £145,000 in the last two months of 2002, according to latest Land Registry figures for completed house sales. This represented a 22 per cent increase over the same period in 2001.

Detached houses average £223,000, semi-detached properties £128,000, terraced houses £108,000, and flats and maisonettes £142,000.

The average of all properties varied between £83,000 in the North, to £242,000 in Greater London.

In Greater Manchester the average price of a detached house was £178,000, a semi £93,000, a terraced house £55,000, and a flat or maisonette £104,000.
