CALA homes in on housing shortfall - February / March 2004

CALA Homes has picked up on the conclusions of the recent Barker Review of housing supply to seek publicity of its Yorkshire development programme.

A lack of properties was identified in the area, said CALA a shortfall that is being addressed by 'innovative developments designed to meet demand from mid market homebuyers in Yorkshire'.

The company said it has gainedplanning permission for sa number of large scale residential developments in Bradford, Sheffield, Dewsbury and Oughtibridge that will result in more than 520 quality new build homes for people across Yorkshire.

'Well known for our large executive detached properties, we are now moving towards the middle of the market with a range of developments that are closely tailored to the requirements of homebuyers in Yorkshire. We welcome the opportunity to develop bigger sites and have a range of attractive housetypes to meet the differing needs of purchasers', said managing director of CALA Homes in Yorkshire, Gary Hardy.

The Barker Review, Review of housing supply: securing our future housing needs, compared regional planning guidance targets with actual completion rates, revealing a shortfall of new build properties that had reached an estimated 39,000 by 2002. The review, published in December 2003, is available from the Treasury website at www.hm-treasury.gov.uk.
