Asylum support 'has improved' - February / March 2004
'Significant improvements' had been made over the last six months in the housing and other services provided by the National Asylum Support Service (NASS), Home Office Minister Beverley Hughes has claimed.
Set up in April 2000 NASS was subjected to an independent performance review team last year which suggested improvements.
As a result of changes the service can now meet the needs of asylum seekers more effectively and promptly, claimed the minister. Although these improvements are encouraging, I am not complacent, and there is still much work to be done', she said.
