CO alarms recalled - April / May 1999

Kidde Safety has recalled its Lifesaver 9CO-1 model carbon monoxide alarms manufactured between June 1997 and 31 January 1998.

'Chemical contamination' of the sensors used may have compromised the detectors' ability to sense carbon monoxide, the firm said.

Kidde will replace defective models free. But before acting it is advising customers to call its freephone number: 0800 917 0722 between 8am and 10pm weekdays, and 9am and 5.30pm at weekends.

The Kidde Safety website at www.kidde.com also contains information on how to identify the defective alarms.
