HMO definition too broad - August / September 1999

Too many properties would be caught by the proposed definition of an HMO, the British Property Federation has told the Government in response to the consultative paper Licensing of houses in multiple occupation - England.

Instead of subjecting any house occupied by members of more than two families to new rules, the BPF prefers the definition currently in use in Scotland a house occupied by at least four people who are members of more than two families. This, it said, 'would command the support of the majority of the lettings industry'.
