Our resident housing law experts RLA senior Policy Officer, James Wood and Academy Trainer, Alex Nolan, discussed the latest hot topics for landlords and agents this Spring, including the implications of the upcoming tenant fee ban for both agents and landlords and the new requirements for Client Money Protection. We also be debated recent case law regarding how the service of gas safety certificates may impact on the ability to serve a Section 21 and the governments recent announcement regarding the abolishment of Section 21.

James WoodSenior Policy Officer, RLA

James joined the RLA 5 years ago as a Landlord Advisor, where he helped thousands of landlords with a wide range of issues around housing law. As Senior Advisor he dealt with the most difficult situations that landlords found themselves in when calling the RLA with professionalism, accuracy and clarity. He also regularly briefed the RLA Advisors on all upcoming changes to make sure they were equipped to deal with an ever changing world for landlords and agents.

Holding a law degree, James also has experience working in property law for a major national law firm.

Alongside providing advice, he writes the RLA's guides on new legislation and deals with upcoming legislative changes for our policy team.

Kitty SpeakmanTraining Manager, RLA

Kitty designs and delivers both online and classroom courses and manages the library of courses on offer.

A qualified Trainer working in the education industry for 12 years and a qualified Assessor and Internal Verifier, she has vast experience of delivering accredited qualifications to professionals including managing successful Ofsted visits and audits giving her excellent knowledge in the execution and compliance of accredited programmes.

She has successfully managed training departments for the last 8 years. Apart from her training career she has been a landlord for 4 years, giving her first-hand experience of the letting process.

Alex NolanTrainer, RLA

Alex has 10 years' experience in the property industry and has been a trainer for both the RLA and a large nationwide letting agent for the majority. Alex designs and delivers many of our classroom courses and assists in the creation of our online content.

Alex is responsible for ensuring that the complex and ever changing regulations applied to the rental sector are translated and simplified to assist all landlords and agents to ensure they are compliant.

Alex believes that in order for landlords to comply with the legislation put in front of them then they must be given the tools and support to do this.
