I am shocked by the governments failure to think through the effect of limiting deposits to a maximum of one month's rent.

Many landlords will accept weaker less financially secure tenants with a larger than normal deposit. Not any longer.

This move will accelorate the trend of landlords only considering tenants with very strong finances. It is already becoming harder and harder for people on low income or benefits to gain a tenancy and this will make it even harder.

If that does not mean more homelessness then I'm a Dutchman...
