Dear Advice Team.

I am asking this question via this forum (rather than TDS) so that others may have a record of the advice given.

If a tenancy deposit is taken and registered under the TDS Scheme but requires to be reregistered (say after the tenancy becomes statutory periodic or the rent is increased) does the deposit sum first have to be returned to the tenant and redeposited with the landlord, or can the deposit simply be reregistered as an administrative process online?

Why is the deposit sum (assuming it remains the same) considered to be in need of reprotection if the tenancy simply extends or rent simply increases?

Thank you for your assistance.
