I let a property on a 6 month shorthold a couple of years ago and it has continued on a monthly basis, the rent being due on the 2nd of each month. The tenant has now said that his payday is being changed to the 6th of each month and he proposes to amend his standing order from the second to the 7th of the month. He has asked for confirmation that this is ok.

I have no objection but propose to tell him that this is in effect an informal agreement and that the legal position must remain as set out in the agreement ie 2nd of the month (for notice purposes etc). Is this correct please?
