My housing benefit rent which was being paid to me directly by the benefits office stopped. What action should I take.

1. 1 year short hold tenancy was expiring on 3rd June 2013.
2. Rent to be paid to me on 1st and 3rd July stopped.
3. I gave section 21a notice for statutary periodic tenancy. This expires on 3rd October.
4. I also gave section 8 notice that expired on 18th August.
5. But then I realized that the section 21a notice that I had served initially had already expired on 3rd June.

What action should I take now? Should I:

1. Use the original section 21a notice that I had served initially. Or is this notice now invalid as I have served another section 21a notice for periodic tenancy?

2. Should I serve both the notices - section 21a and section 8?
