Has anyone else been in this situation and can offer advice?
We have a tenant who is in receipt of housing benefit and has asked for it to be paid direct to her. The local council has advised us that they have made their final payment. How has the changeover been managed by others? Our tenancy agreement states monthly in advance but the council have been paying 4weekly in arrears. The tenant believes she doesn't need to start paying us until the end of April, when in fact according to payments from the council and the tenancy agreement, the month's rent was due on 2 March. Effectively, she is already in arrears. To me it feels like we are heading for a battle that I don't really want and would welcome any advice on how best to proceed.
