I have long standing mother and daughter tenants who now have the daughter's husband living with them as well. They are looking for their own accommodation so will probably only remain at the property for a few months. I have however, and to be on the safe side, added him to the tenancy agreement but, as I understand matters, he has not contributed to the deposit. The TDS are saying that the deposit must be re-registered showing his name, even though he has not contributed. Is this correct? It does not seem right that, in the event of a dispute, a non-contributing tenant could claim part of the deposit. If this is correct, could anyone point me in the direction of the legislation so that I can be clear with my tenants please?
