My relative has lived in the same house for 2-3 years, on benefits. It's a house divided into flats/bedsits. My relative paid a deposit through the Council and paid 1 month's rent in advance to the agent(but has probably lost the receipt by now). The owner upto now has let a guy/agent run the place and neither have been very professional. The Owner has recently dismissed/sacked the agent so he's gone but has told my relative that it is her responsibility to retrieve the 1st month's rent from the agent which would be impossible, even if this was true. My relative wants to move soon so will need to sort this out. Can anyone help with the position here please?
