Are you allowed to recieve rental income from a property you don't actually owe. I recieve an annual rental payment from an industrail building owed by my father as part of my annual wage from our family business. I declare this under the property section on my tax return.
I have recently been informed that I should not recieve income this way unless I get my name added to the land registery for the building.
Is this correct?
On a simialr matter, I rent out a house that I do owe but I spilt the income 50/50 between my wife and I on the tax return to keep both our annual incomes in the lower tax rate. Her name is not on the property deeds. Does this matter as we and husband and wife.
Thanks to whoever takes time to advise.
