However, if there is a dispute then all the documents have to go to the agent and then to me to fill in, and then back to the agent to send off. The DPS have said to me that it would be easier if I kept the deposit in my name in future. So when my new tenants (who are going to move in soon)hand over the deposit, do I get them to write a cheque out to me, or just get the agent to put it in my name, and arrange for the deposit to go to the DPS? In my experience agents don't always submitt the deposit to the DPS when they should, but keep it in their accouts for a while, have you known them to hang onto deposits for a while?
