Please help, we're in trouble over our tenants' deposit
Our tenants call us frequently with spurious complaints for which we've paid heavily in time and money to rectify. They've caused damage to the property but we cannot prove it was them because the inventory wasn't carried out for 2.5 months. Not sure why the lettings agent were negligent in getting this done.
The lettings agent gave us the tenants' deposit to hold onto and we've only just heard about the Tenants' Deposit Protection Scheme so we're very concerned about being penalised for not giving their deposit to a holding agency.
The tenants have now changed their mind about living in our borough and want to move (5 months into a 12 month contract) - and want us to pay part of the early break fees.
I feel like we're about to get clobbered from all sides. Can anyone advise on how to get out of this mess? We only want what's fair.
