Selling tenant's goods and bailiffs

We were granted possession of our flat (thanks to RLA pages which made this relatively easy to do ourselves)
The tenant was ordered to pay us 1675 in unpaid rent. Needless to say, he has not paid. When we entered the flat in December 2006, he had gone. Inside were some of his personal and sports gear and piles of leaflets we think he had a job/contract to deliver. As we couldn't get hold of him, we have disposed of the leaflets, but still have his goods. We understand we have a contractual lien over them, but no right to sell them. However, we are not prepared to hold these bulky items forever, and they do not look very valuable. In one of the last bags of leaflets we picked up, were copies of adverts for his own business with a business address on them. My questions are please:
1 Can we apply to send the court bailiffs to his business address (bearing in mind we have no more proof of it than set out above)
2 Can we sell his goods at a boot sale in April and set off what he owes?
3 Do we have to write to the business address and warn him of any of this?
