What is the justification / logic for a tenant being required to give one months notice "ON OR BEFORE A RENT DUE DATE". (or "notice must be given to expire on a rent payment day" As specified in RLA and many other ASTs)

My tenant has given notice on 29th and the rent due date was 27th. They want to leave before 27th. It is hard to justify why thay should pay almost another month because they missed the date by 2 days.

I will probably agree a compremise but would like to understand why ASTs are worded this way.
