i have an apartment with what i now know to be a "notorious" potterton powermax boiler. It has been on and off faulty for almost 6 months. I have had engineers out to it numerous times changing almost every part and the boiler has been on a maintenance contract with A&R Boiler Specialists of Manchester. They have now washed their hands with the boiler and say that they don't know how to fix it. The fault has been causing the boiler to lock out and need re-setting which the tenant has been kindly doing for several months. In the beginning there were several nights when he had no hot water or heating and i dropped off an electric convector heater whilst we waited for parts and he took a shower at his gym. I made an ex gratia payment of 50 to him as an apology. The boiler failed again yesterday morning and he could not reset it. I have managed to find someone else that claims to be able to fix these boilers and they are going out today. In the meantime the tenant is demanding he be put up in a hotel unti the boiler is fully working. Is this legally reasonable?
