I consequently emailed the tenants to ask them to replace the batteries & detectors, and received the below reply:
If the batteries need replacing in the units then surely this is something the landlord should do as it is up to you to ensure that the smoke alarms are in working order. It shouldn't be left to the tenants to make the building safe to live in. If the batteries need replacing then can you drop batteries off at the house for them to be put into the alarms. Furthermore, there has been no alarm removed from the basement and so cannot be replaced as it doesn't exist.
Whose responsibility is this? They are on the RLA AST agreement?
