During the last tax year my wife and I had numerous telephone accounts:

BT at home, T-Mobile (on a package with call costs included), An Orange pay-as-you-go phone, a land-line in my away from home accommodation (I was living away from home during the week), and an account with 'Breath' which I could use to call from others' landlines. None of these phone lines had itemized accounts provided as part of the deal. I made a significant number of calls in relation to managing my 3 properties - from all the telephones. On reflection I should have paid extra for itemized bills.

My problem is, how can I claim the right tax deduction to account for this expenditure, bearing in mind that I cannot prove any of the calls were in relation managing my properties?

Will the Inland Revenue allow a proportion of the total telephone call costs to be offset against income from property?

Please advise
