What rights, if any, do guarantors have with regards tenancy agreements?

For example when returning a deposit, should they be copied in on the letter (even if they are not mentioned on the tenancy agreement)or if I did that would I technically potentially be in breach of the data protection act?

Is it wise to amend a tenancy agreement to mention if there is a guarantor and if so to name them?

Thanks

D
