ousing Benefit Direct payment - New rules???
I have new tenants who have requested that their Housing Benefit be paid direct to me.
In order to arrange this I have had to provide a letter for the Local Housing Office authorising them to make the payments direct to my bank account.
Three weeks after providing the written authorisation my tenant has received another letter from the Housing office stating that they will not make the payment direct to my account unless I provide written confirmation that I will not increase the rent to exceed the SHA (I assume this is Statutory Housing allowance even though I have only ever heard it referred to as Local Housing Allowance).
I have no intention of increasing their rent above the LHA but do they actually have the right to demand this?
It just seems to me yet another way of trying to control Private Landlords!
