Council wants to make expensive and unnecessary repairs
Council recently wrote to us telling us that they will have to replace the roof of a not big flat area, that connects the two two story buildings, where our flat is situated. They are like normal houses, but originally built as flats and the entrances of which are in the joining area, where there is a flat roof. So each flat roof belongs to four flats. The area is not big at all.
Now council says that because the flat roof is reaching the end if its life expectancy, they will have to replace it with a new one, that will cost £4,000, quote courtesy of the approved contractor. To us this is unnecessary and overpriced. How can we oppose it? 3 of the flats are private and just one is council's. Can we get an alternative quotes or can we ask the council when was the current roof done and what was it's life expectancy, so we know if it has really reached the end of it? On a telephone call the person responsible for the work said that they estimated the end of life of the roof by the look of it. The roof is not leaking at the moment.
