I have a terraced 3 bed property that I need to get certified with the so called 5 year electricity certificate to comply with electrical safety.

To that purpose, I rang around and a very nice gentleman comes over and says he can do the necessary work ie , the property needs a new Consumer unit because the Wylex with fuses no longer complies and he needs to run an earth cable from the stop cock to the meter.

It is all very nice and makes sense what he says. However, when I ask him about the certificate he says that he will give me an ELECSA installation certificate which is valid to 3 to 5 years.

He showed me a card which says he is qualified to Part P. Is this emough?

Well I heard about niceic 5 years electrical certificate. However, when I googled it I got to learn that there several bodies that award certificates: My question is which one do I choose? nic, niceic, elecsa or napit or does it not matter?

Please could you let me know

Regards

Mr Mariano
