Unusual situation as landlord myself, but temporarily having to rent somewhere for 6 months lease whilst renovation work being done on own home under insurance claim. The landlord is not sorting out a problem with central heating. When moved in 1 March, found one rad not working so landlord got plumber (after l week) to come to fix. When plumber left, no radiators working. Only heating now via gas fire in lounge and wood burner in kitchen. Upstairs no heating whatsoever. Advised landlord immediately, but nothing has happened since despite many emails, calls etc. Landlord says having trouble getting plumber back and when suggest we get our own plumber in, told he will only authorise a charge up to 45 for work! Know one solution is to withhold rent until problem fixed but not applicable as full 6 months rental paid in advance by insurance company. House was advertised and let via agent, but agent says he has no authority to get own plumber in without landlord approval. What can we do?
