We rent our house out while we have to live in a tied property, so it is a long term investment for us (and will be our home again one day). We are therefore interested in having solar panels fitted, which would help the tenant now (and us in future) by reducing electricity costs and would also pay for itself and give us a return on our investment in the longer term with the feed in tariff.

My concern is that the current tenant has had some financial difficulties (currently on a prepayment meter) and we do not want to end up liable for any of her electricity costs. Obviously that shouldn't be an issue while she's on prepayment meter, but does anyone have any experience of this situation and how you can ensure that the landlord receives the feed in tariff but isn't liable for any bills etc?

Thanks!
