I have a one bed flat in a four storey house, which has two other flats and two bedits. The freeholder owns the basement flat and the two first floor bedsits. He made the first-floor accommodation into two bedsits himself. My own flat is in its original state on the hall floor or ground floor. As there are now a minimum of five people living in the entire property, does this not make it HMO?

How do I check the HMO status and whether the freeholder / owner has registered for this? Also, how does it affect me as landlord and owner of one flat in the building?

Thank you
