We have converted the downstairs of a public house into an office. The upstairs we rent out as a flat. We have a fire alarm system in the offices downstairs which meets fire regs and the ceilings have a 1hr fire resistence, however the upstairs flat has ordinary off the shelf battery smoke alarm boxes. The upstairs flat is occupied by a lady living on her own.
Housing standards say that we are obliged by law to have a wired alarm system so they have stated that we should do this ASAP or they will put an enforcement notice on us.

Are they correct?
