Hello. I have a student 5 bed property. A student who has been with me for 3 yrs has become a part time student during the course of this year. I was not informed by the student and the first I knew about it was when the local council sent me a bill for council tax . I can understand having to pay partly towards this students council tax , but the council have charged me for the whole house but have given me a 20% discount when I complained. They will not listen to my argument and have said the bill has to be paid and are threatening court action if I don't settle in full. Is this correct or should the council be dealing with 5 separate students and dividing the tax equally. I'm at a point of not knowing what to do. I would appreciate any advice that can be given.
