My daughter lives in a large 3 story HMO in Hull. Upper flat has 7 occupants on 2 floors. Lower flat has 4 occupants on one floor. Recently, the fire alarm has been going off for no obvious reason. The landlord has called by to fix, but the problem still persists. In the meantime, alarm has been disabled by a tenant. All tenants have one code which can be used to silence or to disable.

Should it be possible for a tenant to disable the alarm? Should there be an "engineer code" to disable and a "user code" to silence?

What are the landlord's obligations?
