Section 21 and Section 8 notices

Assured Shorthold tenancy.
My tenants have not paid the last monthly rent. I understand that if the next month's rent is not paid I can issue a section 8 notice. I have already given the tenant a section 21 notice which expires in April. I would like the tenants to leave in accordance with the legal process. Is their any reason why I should not issue the section 8 notice as well as the section 21? I will probably follow the section 21 procedure as I understand that this is a more straightforward process, but the section 8 might encourage them to leave more quickly. Would this be ok?
