Tenants have contacted Shelter Cymru who have demanded they be released from their tenancy and their bond refunded in full. A semi detached house and he builder next door left his house part renovated with no windows and for a small time no roof. This created a cold wall on what should have bee an internal wall thus causing condensation and ensuing mould growth. They are fairly new houses so the wall is cavity. We have contacted the builder who has promised to make good any damage to the house we manage. It is entirely beyond the Landlords control but to help the tenants she offered a 50% reduction in rent to help with a dehumidifier and extra heating. Despite this the tenants still complain and Shelter Cymru state they will not pursue a claim for mould damage to their clothes and contents provided they are released forthwith together with their bond. The Landlord is prepared to release them but only to refund the bond if there is no other damage to the property. She feels any claim for contents should be directed to the builder. Can you shed any light please?
