A close relative has a property that he 'let' out approximately 26 years ago. No formal agreement that he can find. The tenant pays 100 a month. My relative is now at a stage where his affairs need handling for him. I am aware that this is an unusual case and he is happy for them to remain in the house. However is it true that they only way we would be able to do anything further with the property ie. advertise it for sale is when the tenant passes away if they refuse to move? (It is husband and wife). Is there anyway we can look at increasing the rent to more market value.? Any help would be appreciated.
