We understand that as from 1st October 2014 all letting and Property Managing Agent must become members of one of the three government redress scheme. Are landlords who administer their own properties legally required to join any of these schemes?

One of our local authorities is threatening to impose a fine saying we must be a member of a government redress scheme and that we are required to inform them which one we belong to. We have tried to explain that we are landlords and not Letting or Property Management Agents. Could you please advise what you believe our position to be. Thank you in anticipation of your propmpt attention in this matter.
