The tenant left (without paying any rent after notice was given)and then the council wanted me to pay the tax even while the tenant was there.I disputed it (for months!) and now they are insisting I pay for the tenants last (overstayed) day.
They claim that council tax is due from the person who stayed the night before - not who was in occupation in the day. They claim that a person cannot pay council tax at 2 different properties. They do not reply to my e-mails, they do not want to look at the tenancy agreement even though it proves that the tenant is liable to include their last day.

I don't feel that I should have to pay someone elses debt and feel victimised because as a landlord, I'm an easy target. Does anyone have any advice or laws under which I can appeal it? Thanks
