On Monday the toilet in the flat that we rent out overflowed and filled the flat with human waste. The flat is in a block which is maintained by a management company and they charge us a maintenance fee each year. They were contacted and the toilet was unblocked, the problem was caused by a fat ball which had built up. The flat is uninhabitable as it needs to be cleaned and then the flooring, skirting etc taken up this is covered by the building insurance. What isn't covered is the rehousing of the tenant. Do we as landlords have to pay for the alternative accommodation, it is a 6 month short term tenancy.
