I have a property which is 2 flats (converted before I purchased it from a terraced house).

I have had the property for about 10 years and have paid the water rates bill each year on behalf of the tenants. To my knowledge the bill was for the whole property.

When the most recent tenant moved in he must have notified the water company and this has resulted in a separate bill being issued which relates solely to his flat. It is approx 300 per annum.

The water company have said that I could be liable for the costs for the flat for the last 10 years.

Does anyone know how I can challenge this in any way?
