Hi! I have a tenancy that is in place until 6th September, and on the 23rd July the tenant was asked if they wanted to renew for another 6 months; they came back yesterday to say that they don't want to renew and will be leaving. My managing agent has told them that they have to pay a month's rent as the notice they have given is insufficent - is this right? Does the tenant even have to give a reply or can they simply leave on the 6th September without specifying that they will be going? I don't want them being charged a month's rent if it's not legal!

Thanks all,

Jo
