What is the "law" on wired smoke alarms? I have four battery operated smoke alarms, two in hallway, and one in each flat, BUT housing officer says she wants me to "wire up" new alarms with separate electric landlord supply!! This will cost me 1k plus! She said even though the hallway (communal is 10 foot long it's still communal. Is asked her to quote me law, she said it was "policy" using fire code?? This house was converted years ago, it's a two up, one down, small, not 3 storey??

Please can anyone help???
