I have a key system for the electricity (which the tenants take to the local shop and have it charged putting any amount of money they like on it) the Gas is on a normal meter.

All the tenants I have had for the past 20 years have never complained about it but on the day my new tenants moved in they forcibly made the point that they should not be expected to charge this key for their electricity and that they were going to change it and I got a lecture from one of them on energy efficiency.

I told them that I would not want it changed because most of my tenants found it useful and would prefer to leave things as they are.

She now tells me that she wants to change it (which will cost money) and she is also talking about getting a smart meter as well.
I have had quite a long e mail on the subject.

I would be grateful for you advice
Do I have to allow them to change the meter ?

She said nothing about her bearing the change over costs I have no desire to pay for any of it indeed I would be very happy leaving things as they are.

What is the best course of action?

Any advice greatly appreciated
