It seems that the following clauses in a Tenancy Agreement may be a legal alternative to the approved Tenancy Deposit Protection schemes currently available:

"[i] A Retainer fee of 150 per occupant is to be paid before the tenancy starts. This fee is non-returnable.
[ii] A monetary reward of up to 150, less the cost of any damage, cleaning, loss of keys, etc, will be assessed at the end of the tenancy.
[iii] The monetary rewards will be sent on to Tenants approx 4 to 5 weeks after the end of the tenancy."

What are the views of other RLA members?
