I have owned a property for 26 years and 10 years ago did a transfer of equity adding my partner to the deeds to allow us to benefit from a subsidised mortgage via her employers. We then bought a home together to start a family 4 years ago. The original property has since been let by me, contract in my name, rent to my sole account. Accountant has now told me that we are responsible for my partners tax @ 40% on 50% of the income. Didnt give it a 2nd thought til now as always been treated as my sole property. The property is mortgage free, it was cleared from my savings when we moved into our family home. Can we split the income in different proportion as non married owners - ie 90/10 in my favour.
