Holding deposit - how long can they last?
I have a property that becomes available to rent at the beginning of Feb. Showing tenants round now, mid Jan and offered a holding deposit should they want to secure the property and take it off the market. But what happens if they're not ready to move in as soon early Feb and have to complete a longer notice period on their current property? Should the holding deposit hold the property for them until they're ready to move in (1 or 2 months from now)? Or can I charge a fee equivalent to rent to hold the property vacant for them for another month and a half after it's available? Not sure how this works....
